Ahhhhh, little Petunia! Tiny Tunie (now named Pig) came to us at the tender age of 7 weeks, after having been in a shelter for 3 weeks-gasp!- which means she lost mama and litter at only 4 weeks old. She almost died in the shelter, when we got her she was anemic, dehydrated and lethargic, not to mention the vomiting and runny stools. Poor piggie had both a huge parasite load and a nasty case of parvo. Petunia survived all this and came through with style. On one of her socialization forays to the big city(SF), she met Joanie, who promptly fell in love and went on a mission to add this charmer to her family. John and Joanie adopted Tunie shortly thereafter in early February 2005 and brought her to live with them in San Francisco. Not bad for a very nondescript Pit Bull mix puppy-they have the hardest time finding homes. Pig has grown into a very lovely young lady, as you can see, and accompanies Dad to work everyday. What a gorgeous family!
Ralph came from the shelter around Christmas time 2004. How's a nice little dog like this end up in the slammer? For starters, he was a big time marker, indoors and out, and a bit of a bully with other dogs. Or at least, with his kennel neighbor, who we pulled at the same time. Just the sight of each other would set these two off! In general, Ralph turned out to be a good citizen, bad potty habits aside. He had quite a few interested parties, but in early January 2005, went home to live in El Dorado Hills with his new parents, Camille and Troy. Ralph is their first dog and he has bloomed in their care!
Here is Tucker, pictured with his new family at Halloween 2004. Tucker was adopted in Nov 04 by a family in Folsom and is a much spoiled only dog with four human children to look out for. Tucker came to our program from a shelter, and was originally a stray, so like most of our dogs, we knew nothing of his background. We can't help but think someone loved him once before, though, as he was a standout from the beginning. We hope he will enjoy many years of ball-chasing, frisbee-catching happiness in his warm, loving home!
It's always very heart wrenching when older dogs end up in the shelter, and they often do not find new homes in which to live out their golden years. Not the case for little Miss Sally, however. We had a request for a mellow and manageable dog of mature years to be the companion of Teresa's(a tech at our vet hospital) mother, Margaret, who was moving into a new home by herself. Sally came along at just the right time and fit the bill perfectly, once we convinced Margaret to consider a small dog rather than one of the large breeds she had had previously. Sally is such a charmer, with no objectionable habits at all, along with a spark and sweetness that is irresistible. Plus she is a nice, manageable and portable size for anyone to handle. Teresa wrote to us on returning from taking Sally to her new home, " I know my Mom is very happy with her new friend, and it is a great comfort to me knowing they have companionship. She is such a darling girl. Thank you so much for bringing Mom and Sally together!" Thank you Teresa for arranging to get Sally all the way to Cloverdale and helping set up this successful match!
Ziggy, a 3yr old Maltese now making his home in Fremont, came into our program when his former owner's circumstances did not allow her to care for him anymore. He was a bit of a handful at first, confrontational with other dogs and unhousetrained, but he smoothed out beautifully with a little time and work and was ready to find a new home. We were contacted by Christine, who was looking for a new dog for her sister, Cathy, to fill the void left by the death of her beloved 15 yr old Lhasa Apso. It seemed like a match, and Christine generously transported Ziggy down to begin his new life with Cathy, where he fit in without a hitch. Ziggy scored big time- He is Cathy's constant companion and enjoys free reign of the household and yard, as well as daily excursions around the neighborhood.
ZUES, formerly "monte", was a sad little six month old Great Dane with a large, untreated abscess in his neck, when he arrived in rescue from the shelter. It took a succession of vet visits before the cause of the abscess, a hidden foxtail, was finally found and he could be begin to heal up. Zues was adopted in Jan 2004 after a foster period to make sure he fit in well with the family's resident Dane, Thor. As you can see, he's doing fine and leading a rather cushy lifestyle! Lori and Richard have been one of our most generous donors to help make up for the rather large vet bills Zues incurred initially and we are very grateful, as are the program dogs that have benefitted!

Buji is home after 11 months of patient waiting! One of our fantastic volunteers drove her all the way to Oregon to her wonderful new home with Peter and Bianca. Buji gets along great with her two canine brothers, Kenji, an elderly Akita and Winston, a very boisterous Pit Bull playmate. Buji is discovering the joys of the beach and accompanies Bianca on trail rides. She has even overcome her aversion to swimming, in order to stay close to Mom's side on rides. Thanks so much to her new family for welcoming one of our favorite long-termers and offering her a life so filled with the good stuff!
Here's Dutch (black and tan) and his brother Carter sharing a toy. Dutch was adopted in May 2004 and had a bit of an adjustment period before settling in. Kudos to his family for perservering through this with him!! They also adopted another Beagle, Carter, so now Dutch (Beagle/Terrier X) has someone to take some of his terrier energy out on.
Tulip, now named Redline, a lovely black brindle APBT girl, was adopted in May 2004 and lives with her bully brother Lugnut (and human family too, of course!) in Rocklin. There seems to be a car theme going here! Redline was the sweetest wallflower of her litter, but now she has a confident, outgoing big brother to follow and should bloom in her new family!
Our Rowdy was in rescue for 13 months before she caught the eye of Dan and Linda Peters, who were looking for another young hound as a sis for their bluetick, Beulah. Rowdy came from the Stockton area originally, and waited hopefully for the longest time for someone to see her finer qualities. Her voice was not a selling point for most people, but luckily, Dan and Linda are partial to the sound of a hound's song, so she fit perfectly into their family. Here are all their good girls posing for a family shot, Sabre (formerly Rowdy), Beulah, Wonder and Mystique. Sabre was adopted in October 2003.
Lucky Cowgirl found a home on a small horse ranch in Nevada! Cowgirl is now named Tag, and keeps company with several horses and her big sis, Storm, a 15 yr old Aussie who rules the roost. Tag goes on the trail and is able to go to work with her new Mom, Michele. It's everything a dog could ask for!
Aries was one of the pitbull mix puppies mothered by Buji. This family was abandoned shortly after birth and luckily we were able to find a very generous foster home for them! Aries has found his forever home and is pictured here with his new sister Polly.
Moses was yet another dirty and matted middle-aged Poodle dumped in an area shelter. Underneath the filth- a total gem of a dog!! Moses looked ridiculous with his stripped coat and tufts of matted hair sticking out here and there, but he slipped into his foster home without a ripple. He was housetrained, congenial with other dogs, quiet, playful, lovey and affectionate- there was no downside to this dog! Fortunately, he was quickly discovered by a Sonora couple who had recently lost their last in a series of Basset Hounds. Mary Rose told us that she needed smaller dog because of her back, and Moses fit the bill perfectly. He immediately made himself at home on their wooded property, and explored his half acre fenced hillside. He's even figured out the dog doors and has full access to inside or outside whenever he wants. Mary Rose was not sure about the name Moses at first, but has compromised by calling him Mosey since he already knew his name. Here is Moses with George and Mary Rose during his first week at home! Moses was adopted in February 2004.
Hard to believe Maxwell was once a homeless waif! Maxwell was very popular on our website, and had many potential homes to choose from. He now makes his home in San Francisco with his mom Nathalie.
Kobe came to us as a five month old puppy, and we've finally seen him into a home at four years old! Kobe was part of a semi feral litter, and as the shyest pup, never got a home when his littermates were placed. As an adult, he blossomed into a wonderful dog, but as a sensitive, soft, shepard mix, did not get much attention. Recently, we were contacted by Justin, who adopted Trip, a puppy from the same litter. He was looking for a second dog and happened on Kobe by chance. What great luck! Kobe and Trip were reunited after years apart. Trip is bigger than Kobe, but the similarity between the dogs is remarkable. We hope to get a picture of them together. Kobe now lives with Justin and Trip in Camino, and though we miss him a lot, we couldn't think of a better ending for this story!
Here's Margo with Ray and Arlene on adoption day. Margo is a lovely middle aged lady with a tremendous black and white coat- we thought she might be a shelti and spitz mix, but who knows. Margo was getting passed over in one of the valley shelters, but we thought she had potential, even though she was an older gal. Our groomer cleaned her up (what a job!) and we found her to be energetic, enthusiastic and a lot of fun. Margo went to live in Groveland, CA and she has fit right in. Ray and Arlene have their granddaughter to thank, since she was the one who found Margo on our website. We're thankful too!
Iris, formerly Athena, came to us at ten days old, along with mom Buje and the rest of her litter. They grew up in a loving home, and little Athena went to live in Lake Tahoe in January 2004. Her new parents, Fawne and Noel, named her Iris because of her gorgeous green eyes. She shares her home with an older dog brother, Mowgli, also a shelter dog. Iris certainly landed herself in an idyllic place, surrounded by a dog's paradise- she can walk from her home to Fallen Leaf Lake and other mountain hikes.
This is Roxy, a small Chi/Terrier adopted by a Sacramento family in April 2003. Roxy has picked 13 yr old Kelli as her favorite family member, and is her foot warmer at night. Thanks for the pictures, Kelli!
Here is Panda with Keeko, and his new family, Glenn, Melissa and Akorren, in Texas.
Dhugan was adopted by Katie, and now lives in Pollock Pines.
